Honesty versus Deceit

Deceit is the source of the fall of mankind and the reason men and women do not follow God today.  The Devil in scripture is called, The deceiver of the whole world” (Rev. 12:9).  Jeremiah writes: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? Je. 17:9.  Deceitful and dishonest people fear the truth.  The truth sets men free.  Our nation was founded on openness and truth, and today our foundations are shaking and we sometimes don’t know what to believe.  Political correctness demands roundabout answers and mumbo jumbo, but we need straightforward truth talking!

It’s easy to point fingers, but do we live honesty and truthfully?  We need honesty and truthfulness in speech, in business, in relationships, and in our work.    One of the characteristics of our day is the lowering the standard of honesty, and morality.  Little compromises in honesty destroy confidence and relationships.  “He who tells white lies, usually becomes colored blind.” The Bible, God’s Holy Book, says: Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.  Rev. 21:8 says:  "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
Whenever we are tempted to be dishonest we must remember that the devil is the father of lies and he is the one who provokes us to lie.  Resist him.  Pray with David in Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. Ask God to cleanse your heart from all dishonesty and deception.  He will do it!
